A desperate housewife identified as Mama Chiwe (surname withheld) in Asaba, Delta State, was yesterday beaten up after she allegedly stole a Nokia phone in a shop.
Eye witness said the woman was later taken to the A’ Division Police station in Asaba and, upon interrogation, confessed to stealing the GSM.
She said while negotiation to buy the phone for N5,000 failed, with the trader insisting on selling for N15,000, she took advantage of him moving out to answer calls to remove the phone and put it into her bag.
It was gathered that luck ran out of the woman, a mother of two, when she was sighted by another trader who raised the alarm that attracted other traders to the scene.
She was said to have been beaten up before the police was invited to the scene.
At the A’ Division, police officers who did not want their name in print confirmed the story, adding that the GSM phone was found in her bag.
Family sources said it was a common habit of the suspect before she got married to the husband.
