Frontline political and social critic, Comr. Philip Agbese has declared that if the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), makes former Minister of State for Niger-Delta, Hon. Sam Ode their gubernatorial flag bearer for the forthcoming polls, it will save the party and the nation’s democracy.
According to him, the surest way to ensure that rigging is avoided by 2015 was for all political parties to field credible and acceptable candidates, which qualities he said the former minister possess.
Agbese said Sam Ode who had served as minister before and thus establishing the desired links for proper governance had also served in the state as Special Assistance to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, keeping him abreast with issues concerning Local Government administration, which has been a problem for many governments.
The social critic who is the national President of National Democratic Front (NDF), said for rigging to be avoided then credibility and track records which will endear candidates to the people must be emphasised.
He added that rigging is usually occasioned by the inability of political parties to field candidates that the voters could connect with and defend. Stating further, Agbese said the people had a mandate to defend their votes but for such to be realised, they needed to have some level of belief in the candidates.
Enumerating further, Sam Ode’s advantages, he said the dual parentage of having a Tiv mother and Idoma father and even grown up in Gboko with the Tiv people made him of greater and larger appeal to all electorates across the state.
