The Benue State Police Command yesterday said it has introduced foot patrol in some locations of the state to prevent crime and other social vices.

The Commissioner of Police, Hyacinth Dagala, told journalists in Makurdi that the foot patrol by policemen would be undertaken during the weekends in areas where vehicles can hardly access.

“We have introduced foot patrol on Fridays and Saturdays, especially in areas where vehicles cannot go,” he said.

Dagala said the idea was meant to support the stop-and-search strategy already employed by the command in every nook and cranny of the state.

He added that his men have been stationed with security vehicles in the town, just as they were prepared to respond to emergency and distress calls.
