Police Arrest Five Suspected Robbers in Benue

Police in Benue State have apprehended five suspected armed robbers. Spokesman of the command, DSP. Daniel Ezeala, said yesterday that two out of the suspects, Abdullahi Ali and Ismaila Yakubu, both of Bauchi street in Wadata area of Makurdi, were arrested following a tip off that they were planning to rob innocent citizens alongside three other members of the gang, who are now at large.

He said two locally made pistols and a live cartridge were recovered from them. The trio of Terlumun Chia, Kuhe Ichoughwua and Paul Yorsu, who specialise in hanging around banks in Makurdi, to monitor and trail customers, were also arrested by the police.

Ezeala noted that the three suspects attacked one Blessing Alaka, while she was on her way to the Benue State University on Friday, and collected the sum of N15, 000, she withdrew from the bank. The police spokesman added that a suspected burglar was nabbed at the North-bank area of Makurdi, after breaking into a cold room belonging to one Ejike Osuagu, to steal a laptop and N23, 000.

Ezeala said all the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.
