Nigerian Premier League
Result: Lobi Stars 2-1 Giwa FC
Date: 05 October 2014
Lobi Stars endured a late scare from Giwa FC to hold firm and win 2-1 in Katsina Ala on Sunday evening.
The match which had the attacking flair saw the dismissal of caretaker head coach of the Jos-based side Musa Aminu sent-off for dissent.
It was the season’s first strike for fast rising Flying Eagles goal minder Olorunleke Ojo, who scored Giwa’s consolation at the Emmanuel Atongo Stadium.
The Pride of Benue were quick out of the blocks with the match opener from former Warri Wolves winger Musa Najare who beat Olorunleke with his shot.
Giwa weren’t held back by the early setback and set their troupes to the enemies’ camp, but they showed nerves in front of goal.
The hosts were also wasteful and couldn’t increase their tally in the first half, which ended 1-0 in their favour.
In a bid to kill off the power and zeal shown by the travellers, the hosts’ technical bench led by Coach Evans Ogenyi gave young Namen Immenger the chance to prove himself.
The CHAN Eagle returned the favour with the second goal for Lobi. He superbly turned in a rich volley that caught Olorunleke unawares in the 76th minute.
In the 80th minute, Giwa pulled one back from the penalty spot and it was goalkeeper Olorunleke who dispatched his effort into the waiting net with ease.
