A t h r e e – y e a r – o l d boy, Victor Obiekwe, attending summer school at the Anglican Nursery and Primary School yesterday fell from a one-storey building and died instantly. The school is located off Lagos Street in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The boy’s father, Mr Emeka Obiekwe, told our correspondent that teachers called him on phone to report to the school immediately and on arrival, he saw his son in a critical condition. Obiekwe said he tried to rush the boy to a hospital near the state fire service but discovered that he had already died.
He said some of the teachers went with him to the hospital but no pastor of the church which established the school had visited to sympathise with him.
Obiekwe said he was advised by some persons to involve the police in the case but he took solace in the fact that “God gave and had taken the boy”. The man, who is a Catholic, said Victor was his first child.
When our correspondent visited the school, the head teacher and a pastor seen at the premises refused to comment on the issue.
They claimed that the church had not been briefed so they would not speak to any journalist
