Sen. Ben Obi, the Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Inter Party Relations, has commended the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority (LBRBDA) for providing empowerment to naturally gifted people in the society.
Obi said this on Friday in Makurdi during the inauguration of the Ada Chenge Foundation.
The event turned into a political event as supporters of Chenge, Managing Director of the authority and a governorship aspirant of the PDP, drummed support for her.
Obi, who said the aims of the foundation were in tandem with the transformation agenda of the Federal Government, advised the initiator of the foundation not to give up, in spite of the obstacles.
He said the ideals of the foundation reflected the transformation agenda of the government aimed at providing better living condition to people through the provision of basic social amenities.
The Coordinator of the Women for Change and Development Initiative for the North Central  zone, Mrs Evelyn Onyilo, called on women to support their counterparts vying for elective positions in the country.
“Ada Chenge has shown you the way, therefore, I call on all men to stand up and support this courageous woman, who is an achiever; support her to actualise her dreams.”
Onyilo, however, advised the management of the foundation not to restrict their support to the naturally-talented in society alone but to include the girl-child.
According to her, by including the girl-child, it would be addressing issues of premature marriages, Pr0stitution and battery against women.
Responding, Chenge said she was partnering other notable NGOs across the world to empower indigent members of the society with talents.
She said the NGO had already provided empowerment to local musicians, footballers and indigent students who were doing well in their fields.
The event was attended by some politicians, traditional rulers, the clergy and the business class. (NAN)
