Benue State government has abandoned us –Dr. John Adah College of Health Technology laments poor funding

By Becky Mene

Dr John College of Health Technology, Otukpo has earned itself popularity and credibility ever since it was established in 1999 following its undeniable and indisputable academic excellence in Benue and of course in Nigeria at large.
The renowned community health institution that sits on large acres of land in Otukpo is the only College of Health Technology in Zone C and number four in Benue State.
Mrs Cecilia E. Idoga the provost of the school, in a recent brief chat with IDOMA VOICE in Otukpo lamented the continuous abandonment of the school by Benue State Government, especially the dilapidated road leading to the institution despite the school’s efforts to bring development to the Idoma community. The embittered school boss, called on the government and well meaning Idoma sons and daughters to encourage and support the vision of the school in training potential and emerging medical practitioners for the benefit and betterment of the society.
“Its so unfortunate that the Benue State government and the well to do Idomas are yet to recognise our efforts. There is nothing to write home about the main road leading to this school. There was a time I employed a medical Doctor for the school clinic but he later turned down the offer because the road is not motorable. I felt bad because the clinic is not meant only for the students but also for the whole community. Anybody can come here and be treated, We have professional health workers here, but the road is depriving us of many things. The patching of pot holes and clearing of the road side grasses of that deplorable road have been the responsibility of the students for some times now, which is not ought to be so. It discourages the students, some times even the Okada rider would not want to carry them to school because of the state of the road especially when it rains. We want government and our top leaders to do something about the road and also help in any other way to push the school to an enviable height,” appealed Mrs. Idoga.
The Provost further revealed that since the birth of the school in 1999, the state government has not in any way donate, pattern or recognise the effort of the school except the permission granted to erect the school aside that nothing more. According to her, Dr. John Adah College of Technology is an outstanding institution in all ramifications, the school has gotten all the necessary accreditations;  Community Health of Nigeria 2003, Medical Lab. Science Dept. 2008, council of Nigeria 2011, Environmental Health Dept. 2012, Pharmacy dept 2013, the lists are endless, as they have also applied for Lab technician.
Our reporter also observed while touring the school with the provost and the registrar Mr Ejembi some of on going building projects in the school; standard hostels, ultra modern lab. More lecture halls etc, for a conducive learning environment for the teeming students from all over the Country. While the     no-choice students keep battling the forgotten road every day.
