Second Republic Minister of Communication and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State, Chief Isaac Shaahu, has cautioned against imposition of candidates and rigging in the forthcoming primaries by political parties in the country.
Shaahu, speaking yesterday in Makurdi with journalists, stated that the country can be better for it if all political parties allowed for free and fair party primaries that would allow its membership to nominate candidates of their choice.
The former minister identified imposition of candidates and rigging as some of the factors militating against the development of the country, charging politicians and political parties to refrain from such acts.
The elder statesman reasoned that Nigeria would be better for it if leaders of various political parties shun their personal ego and place the interest of the country uppermost against any other consideration.
He said: “As we march towards party primaries, let the will of the people prevail rather than coercing people to follow what is against their wishes. This is the only way democracy can flourish in the country.”
