Agila Carnival And A Trail Of Controversial Beauty Queens

Agila Carnival is a social and economic event held at Agila Town of Ado local government in Benue State.
The carnival which is organised annually during the festive period of December comprises of assorted smaller events which include a novelty football match, wrestling competition amongst local warriors, a beauty pageant “Face of Idoma” and the carnival procession.

Of all of these exciting events, Agila Carnival has been most unfortunate with the beauty pageant which produces the Face of Idoma.

From the 2013 Face of Idoma, Miss Esther Adapoyi who got pregnant outside wedlock shortly after her reign to Miss Joy Onazi, winner of 2014 edition, who was dethroned after incessant unruly behavior, it has been from one controversial queen to another.

This has not been down to the inadequacies of the Faces of Idoma alone. According to reports, the organisers of Agila Carnival have been laxed with the handling of the queens.

A source who pleaded anonymity said,  ” they (Agila Carnival) themselves are not serious with their queens. A situation where these girls are taken to Portharcout where they rub shoulders with everyone, how can they be respectful? How can they obey the rules? ”

The latest controversy is that the current Face of Idoma, Miss Precious Ogidi has dragged Agila Carnival to court, vowing she’ll be the last Agila queen to be toyed with.

According to Esther Ogidi, the elder sister to the queen who spoke to Levels Kuku of wowzagist.com, “Precious took Agila Carnival to court for harassment academically, in person, and image tarnishing with an attempt to collect her car and dethrone her.”

She further explained that her sister was invited for questioning by the police after being reported by the organisers for failure to relinquish her car.

That despite trying her best, the organisers always complained that her sister was not doing enough in a bid to justify their quest to collect her vehicle.

She recounted how the organiser scuttled her project and refused to grant her request for more time to allow for proper sponsorship and participation.

Efforts to reach Vice President of Agila Carnival, Mr Henry Ipole to get their side of the story proved abortive.

However, as at the time of filling this report, Benue.com.ng learnt that Miss Ogidi had parked the vehicle under contention within the campus of the University of Agriculture Makurdi, where she is a student, and instructed the security not to allow access to it by anyone without her permission.
